Board of Directors

Helena Area Habitat for Humanity (HAHFH) Board of Directors is the governing body of the organization. Directors are elected to serve a three year term and can serve two consecutive terms. The responsibility of the Board of Directors is to develop policies and oversee the assets of HAHFH.

Committees

Building Committee

Bill Engle, Chair
The Building Committee works within the HAHFH structure to build quality, simple, and affordable homes with our partner families. The Building Committee’s duties include:

• Building homes by effectively utilizing our funds and resources.
• Obtaining building sites in advance of construction need and/or locating homes for rehabilitation.
• Using alternative building materials and energy-efficient systems which are cost-effective for construction purposes and for the long-term maintenance by partner families.
• Developing and maintaining the HAHFH Building Committee Manual.

Family Support Committee

Lynn Long, Chair
The Family Support Committee assumes family support responsibilities for families selected by the Board of Directors to become Habitat partners and homeowners. The committee is an integral part of developing and empowering families to break the cycle of poverty and gain independence. The committee seeks to welcome new families into the Habitat program and provide them with a mutual support system, educational opportunities and a forum for discussions pertinent to ownership of a Habitat home.

The Family Support Committee’s goal is to help families transition into responsible home ownership. The committee seeks to welcome new families to HAHFH and provide them with coordinators to assist them in making this transition. As HAHFH grows and works with families, the goal becomes families helping families.

To achieve this goal, the committee will:

• Assist partner families in becoming responsible homeowners by providing workshops concerning budgeting and credit, legal matters, neighbor relations, home and yard maintenance, and other workshops as needed.
• Coordinate the welcome dinner, groundbreaking and dedication ceremonies for each home.
• Train and empower coordinators to assist Habitat families transitioning into home ownership.
• Train and assist a Family Selection Team in screening and selecting families that meet the selection criteria for HAHFH.

Resource and Development Committee

Dean Chaussee, Interim Chair
The Resource and Development Committee promotes the message of Habitat for Humanity by raising public awareness, developing long-term financial support and building church and civic support. The committee will:

• Develop long-term, stabilized funding from area churches and other private, business and community organizations
• Expand the HAHFH Resource and Development Committee membership to include other community groups and individuals who can contribute their resources for common goals
• Develop relationships with educational institutions, such as Carroll College and the University of Montana – Helena College of Technology
• Plan, oversee and participate in fundraising activities
• Develop alumni participation
• Develop public outreach and awareness
• Develop and maintain a HAHFH Resource and Development Committee Manual.
